Australian Open 2010 Results: Andy Murray Defeated Rafael Nadal: Australian Open Defending champion Rafael Nadal was forced to quit the game in his Australian Open quarterfinal match against Andy Murray with a knee injury at Rod Laver Arena. The oft-injured Rafael Nadal missed several months of action last season because of knee and abdominal issues and was unable to defend his title at Wimbledon.

“I’m a bit gutted for him,” Andy Murray said in a court-side televised interview. “I’ve known Rafa since he was 13, 14 years old, and I always looked up to him. He’s my favorite player to watch.”

Rafael Nadal called for a medical timeout during the second game of the third set of the game in the Australian Open 2010 quarterfinals to get treatment on the knee. Unfortunately, it looked like Rafael Nadal cannot bear the pain on his knee that he called it quits shortly thereafter.

“I didn’t have lot of problems for the last six months,” Rafael Nadal told a news conference. “And today is the first time. I felt something which I think is a bad movement.”

Before Nadal called it quits, Murray had been leading Nadal with 6-3, 7-6 (7-2), 3-0 in the Australian Open 2010.

Nadal and Murray, however, managed to squeeze in some terrific tennis game! Congratulations Andy Murray. We’re looking forward to a much better match in your next game at Australian Open 2010.
