Directors Guild of America or DGA is the labor union which represents the interests of movie and television directors in the United States motion picture industry. Founded as the Screen Directors Guild in 1936, the group changed its name to Directors Guild Awards or DGA in 1960.
So who is this year’s Director Guild Award winner? Who won the DGA this 2010? The DGA Winner for 2010 is Kathryn Bigelow with her movie Iraq Warn drama entitled “The Hurt Locker” from Summit Entertainment. This movie copped the Directors Guild Award (DGA) for best-directed feature film.
It was surprising that Kathryn Bigelow overcame her fellow competition most especially the Fox-distributed movie “Avatar,” directed by her ex-husband James Cameron.
Other contenders for the Directors Guild Awards were the following directors with their movies: Lee Daniels for Lionsgate’s “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” Jason Reitman for Paramount’s “Up in the Air” and Quentin Tarantino for the Weinstein Co.’s “Inglourious Basterds.”
