Who is Howard Zinn? Howard Zinn is a Historian, author, civil rights and political activist. Howard Zinn is best known for “A People’s History of the United States,” a book that inspired millions to both rethink and rebuke how textbooks have described the history of America.

Howard Zinn’s daughter, Myla Kabat-Zinn of Lexington, said Howard Zinn suffered a heart attack and died at the age of 87 today in Santa Monica, California, where he was traveling. Howard Zinn was a resident of Auburndale, Massachusetts.

Noam Chomsky, a close friend of Howard Zinn said: “I can’t think of anyone who had such a powerful and benign influence. His historical work changed the way millions of people saw the past.”

“A People’s History”, Howard Zinn’s masterpiece had some famous admirers, including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The two grew up near Howard Zinn, were family friends and gave the book a plug in their Academy Award-winning screenplay for “Good Will Hunting.” When Affleck nearly married Jennifer Lopez, Howard Zinn was on the guest list.

Definitely Howard Zinn will be remembered by many of his supporters.
