MELISSA Gilbert is back on the singles’ market.
After 16 years of marriage,Melissa Gilbert welcomes back her husband-free days,as she and husband Bruce Boxleitner announced their separation Tuesday.
Gilbert had first met Boxleitner as a teenager when they both were on Battle of the Network Stars. Boxleitner ignored her as she was a teen and he was many years older than her. Years later,after Gilbert’s previous marriage with Bo Brinkman ended in divorce,Boxleitner’s ex-wife set them up.Since then,the couple was on-and-off for over a year. They were engaged twice and when re-united on the third time, they headed straight to the altar on January 1, 1995 in her mother’s living room. Gilbert quickly became pregnant, but went into premature labor more than two months before her due date. She gave birth to a son, Michael Garrett Boxleitner, named in honor of Michael Landon, on October 6, 1995.
Gilbert has a son Dakota from her previous marriage and is also stepmother to Boxleitner’s two sons with Holcomb, Sam and Lee from his marriage from Kathryn Ogilvy.
“We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together,” Gilbert said in a statement.
“On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time.”
