Frequently, this pageant is confused with the Miss USA pageant, from which winners continue on to the Miss Universe pageant. Tonight’s big winner at the Miss America 2010 pageant was Miss Virginia, Caressa Cameron.
The 12 Semifinals of Miss America Pageant 2010 who have reached and qualified for the evening gown competition: Miss Oklahoma, Miss Louisiana, Miss Hawaii, Miss Nebraska, Miss Virginia, Miss New Mexico, Miss Colorado, Miss District of Columbia, Miss Tennessee, Miss Kentucky, Miss Texas and Miss California.
The Miss America Pageant 2010 Winners have just been announced:
Fourth runner-up is Miss Kentucky Mallory Ervin.
Third runner-up is Miss Louisiana Katherine Putnam.
Second runner-up is Miss Tennessee Stephanie Wittler.
First-runner up is Miss California Kristy Cavinder.
Miss America Pageant 2010 Winner is Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron.
To become the Miss America 2010 winner, Caressa Cameron had to beat out a total of 52 other contestants. Those cam from the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands and, after a 50-year absence, Puerto Rico. The first Miss America pageant was held in 1921. The event is now held in Las Vegas after leaving Atlantic City in 2006.
During the week of Miss America 2010 preliminaries, Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron, Miss California Kristy Cavinder and Miss Michigan Nicole Blaszczyk each won $2,000 for winning split talent competitions. Miss Oregon CC Barber, Miss New York Alyse Zwick and Miss Puerto Rico Mimi Pabon each won $1,000 in nightly swimsuit competitions.
In addition, the $6,000 Miss America 2010 Quality of Life award went to Miss Oklahoma Taylor Treat. That award is given to the contestant judged to excel the most in community service and volunteerism.
