Charice Pempengco hailed as Asia’s Rising Pop star.
The 18 year-old Charice,was described as the Asia’s rising pop star in the weekly news magazine Newsweek,in an article that was posted on September 16.
The article had depicted Charice’s early beginnings,her childhood to her struggles to her rising star status in the international music arena.
Charmaine Clarice Pempengco or Charice for short,is a teenage Filipina singer who rose to popularity in her hit single Pyramid.
But before the international success,Charice was once a dreamer.
She started belting chord-damaging songs when she was just a toddler.
The Philippines,known for its best singers,has this passion for singing. Every fiestas or any occasions,singing contests are commonly conducted.So it’s not much a surprise that,a young girl with a very impressive vocals will join singing competitions.
Charice joined more than 100 competitions back in her country. She also joined a televised singing contest titled: ” Little Big Star” where her video singing “I Will Always Love You” caught the attention of many.And the rest,as what everybody calls it,is history.
She guested in different international TV shows,Star King in Korea,where her video clip got Ellen DeGeneres’ attention.Then eventually, Charice guested and impressed the queen of talk,Oprah.
Then,it was Oprah who introduced the 17 year old Charice to the 15-time Grammy Award–winning producer David Foster .
When Foster heard Charice singing,Foster says the singer Charice reminds him of a young Dion.
“Charice reminds me of when I saw Celine 20 years ago,” he says. “In my opinion, she will put the whole of Asia on the map as a huge global superstar.”
Foster,Charice’s godfather, spearheaded the album creation.Her debut album titled simply Charice, was the first by an Asian singer to make it to the top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart in May.
The Filipino singer will be featured in U.S hit TV musical Glee season 2
wherein she will play as Sunshine Corazon, a Filipino exchange student who will be Rachel Berry,played by Lea Michele,biggest rival.
The Newsweek article did also feature the singer’s controversial preparation for Glee that had been widely criticized.
