Tonight, is a Wolf Moon. What does it mean to have a Wolf Moon? From the word “wolf moon” itself, it sounds creepy as the images of werewolves and the like are appearing. Did the images of werewolves in the movie Twilight appear to you? But what does a wolf moon really means?
The Wolf Moon is a full moon that occurs in January. The name “wolf moon” comes from hungry wolf packs that would howl outside the villages of Native Americans. This full moon is also known as the Old Moon or the Moon After Yule. Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January’s full Moon – the “Wolf Moon”
Incidentally, the Wolf Moon that will happen today is also the largest and brightest full moon that we will witness in this full year 2010.
A lot of beliefs have been developed in a full moon. Some believes that full moons can cause disasters such as quakes and bad weather.
In addition, each month’s first full moon has been given a name and here are they:
February – Ice moon
March – Storm moon
April – Growing moon
May – Hare moon
June – Flower moon
July – Hay moon
August – Corn moon
September – Harvest moon
October – Hunter’s moon
November – Snow moon

Let’s wait for these full moons as they happen in each month. For this month of January 2010, let’s sit back and relax as we watch the full moon dubbed as “Wolf Moon” later tonight.
